The Voice of the People

Many people will soon go down to the polls and vote. “The voice of the people” will be heard and a new leader will become the Chief Executive officer of the government of the United States.

He will then be allowed to sign laws into place over the people, appoint new federal judges through out the nation, nominate new Supreme Court Justices and send the military into battle as a Commander in Chief. The “voice of the people” will have been heard and all who are a part of that process will be under the exercising authority of their new ruler.

Most of the people will be dissatisfied with the winner. Less than half of the people who could vote will vote for the winner and many of those who did choose the winning candidate do so simply because they like the opponent even less. Some people will be elated and continue to believe in their candidate , imagining that they have elected God’s.

In the Bible we also see the phrase “the voice of the people”. In first book of Samuel, a prophet of Israel, a nation with no king, some four hundred years after their departure from Egypt, the people “rejected” God and elected a leader who would have power and authority.

They had men to lead them before, but they were not like other nations whose leaders “exercise authority” over them. Their leaders were true servants of servants, for in those days there was no central ruler in Israel.1 This was the way God wanted it and based on what Jesus said we know that God still wants it that way today.2

Yet, the people continue to attempt to elect leaders like they did in Israel. They hope he will be a good Commander in Chief. These leaders may compel the people to contribute to their government with a compelled sacrifice or tax taking the first fruits of their labor.3 They will also be able to take their sons and daughters to serve his will.4

Of course Samuel said Saul had done foolishly and his government would perish because he forced the people to contribute.5 Samuel had given a concise detailed warning from God6 as to what to expect if they elected an executive officer who had the power to make law. God did not ordain such a government for the people but it was their own desire that brought them into condemnation.7

Prior to this election of a Commander in Chief Israel had appointed their “titular” leaders from the bottom up maintaining their God given rights in a voluntary system. They could decide who and what to give to their leaders, when and how they would serve. They could decide fact and law in their courts according to the laws and customs written in there own hearts.

There would soon be a multitude of officers appointed from the top down to eat out their substance. They would make their instruments of war, take the sons of the people to run before their chariots and would even take their daughters8 to labor for them.9

The first fruits of their labor would belong to another like in the captivity of Egypt10 where 20 percent of the labor of the people was taken from them each year by the government.11 The government provided for the needs of the people, yet, these welfare system were a snare.12

Moses knew that the people might be foolish enough to elect a man to rule them and warned them what elements they should put in their written constitution.13 He should not have treaty making powers or accumulate the gold and silver of the people in his treasury or establish a standing army. Israel was a republic in the sense of Webster’s definition where the leaders were titular. These new elected leader would have an “exercising authority” like the other nations who rule over the people. Israel was turning the world upside down with their own vote.

What is a vote?

According to Webster’s 1913 Dictionary the word vote can be defined as, ” An ardent wish or desire; a vow; a prayer. ”

A vote can be considered a vow or a prayer. It is an expression of your desire and wish and it is a form of application for that wish to become law. It is also participation in an attempt to “exercise authority” over all other voters, both registered and those merely qualified to vote.

“Often the terms ‘citizen’ and voter are confused. A voter is a person who is allowed by law to take part in the government.”14

That vote as a “vow” can be defined as, “Specifically, a promise of fidelity…” for what ever candidate wins. Fidelity is defined as, “Faithfulness; adherence to right; careful and exact observance of duty, or discharge of obligations.” Is voting an act of faith?

It is further defined as, “A solemn promise made to God… an act by which one consecrates or devotes himself, absolutely or conditionally, wholly or in part, for a longer or shorter time, to some act, service, or condition; a devotion of one’s possessions; as, a baptismal vow; a vow of poverty.” Webster’s 1913

In order to understand what a promise to God or god is we need to understand what is meant by the word god since the Bible tells us that “There are gods many” 15

If Jesus told us to not to be like the governments of the other nations who call their leaders benefactors but who also exercise authority one over the other then how can we say Jesus is our Lord? [see Luke 22:25...]16

To vote is an attempt to exercise authority over your neighbor through the agency of the elected. What is your vote, your vow, your prayer? Who are you going to pray to have as your ruler? Men or God?

Do we have an alternative? Is there another way to go? Is it the Kingdom of God under the perfect law of liberty? Can we seek that government as an alternative?

Is there a practical plan to move toward the liberty of Christ, Moses and Abraham?

What is that kingdom, how and why can it set men free?

51 Samuel 13:13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. But now thy kingdom shall not continue:

61 Samuel 8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king. And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots. And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants. And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants. And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work. He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants. And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day. Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles. And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD. And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

I agree with most of what you say but your position on votes and vows is not correct.

Votes and vows where always part of the deal. Here we lose ourselves in semantics and interpretation. “With one voice” goes all the way back to Moses, then all the way back to the beginning. The voice of the people in formal capacity has always been the sacred bulwark of establishing outward government.

I would agree that how the voice of the people proceeds today has little to do with due process of law and formal procedure in a free society, in a lawful government under Christ. What we have now is not really the “voice of the people” but a stifled procedure that slaves participate in out of mostly fear.

Also I am wandering why you do not allow comments to be shown on this site, sure you must have a good reason. Thanks, Don

The phrase “with one voice” Exodus 24:3 has to do with consensus not with the election of a leader with an exercising authority.
The “voice of a people” who elect to give power to a leader to make choices for them is a rejection of God because it is an abandonment of a right and responsibility endowed by God. In the Church and the Kingdom of God as it was in the days of early Israel, and has always been in pure republics, the leaders elected by the consensus of the people were titular. They had no power to make decisions for the people except over what things the people freely gave them.
The voters in the United States do not elect titular leaders. They elect men who have a great deal of power to make choices for the people, for the electorate.
Only those who are subject are permitted to vote. In the United States the right to vote and the act of voting is evidence of your subject citizens.

There is a vast difference between electing a titular leader and one who can exercise authority one over the other. It is the difference between bondage and liberty.
There are several words translated into vow in the Biblical text. They have considerably different meanings. One is an expression of hope and the other is a submission to power. The voter in the US has submitted or he cannot vote.

That is a very good explanation and clarifies much. I agree with your explanation very much as far as it goes. It is, I think, a simple question of what representation really means. I am glad you have showed me the word titular to explain it.

I still cannot understand how you think the people all along did not enter into contract, covenant, vow, as civil contract all along. I think this is the big thing that needs to be clarified. If we do not enter into civil contract amongst ourselves to bind ourselves to each other in a civil capacity, then we become subject to the civil bindings of a false law. That is what has happened and is happening today. Notice how hard it is to get any to really gather. The reason is because unless we replace the current contracts with those of our own, we will continue subject.

I am only stabbing into this but I think the words of Jesus are not in the right context as we interpret. I have not thoroughly read all written on the ecclesia site and forums etc but some. It is the only point I choke on in all that has been written which I consider the clearest and best conscription of “the perfect law of liberty” I have yet run into.

You have clarified the above point well, maybe the other can be reconciled.

    Thankyou

Israel was a people under a contractual relationship with the Egyptian government. They had to pay 20% income tax to the government every year, the gold was and the land [gold is portable land] was owned by the government and the people had “use” of it by government suffrage.
This should sound very familiar since it is also the present condition in the “world”.
They continued to pay their “tale” of bricks” but they learned to glean in the field for their benefits. They learned to live without the men who call themselves benefactors but exercised authority one over the other, i.e. the Egyptian government.

The learned to live by the perfect law of liberty, faith, hope and charity. Their contract was with God, not men. The titular leaders of Israel once they were kicked out was called the “church in the wilderness”. Their ministers were able to provide social welfare through faith, hope and charity… no forced contributions. A whole nation lived and made no covenants with any inhabitants or their gods, i.e. “ruling judges”.]
Israel was a pure republic. The Kingdom of God was also. In fact it has been a Republic from generation to generation with all power and authority vested in the individual families. Those families tax themselves by freely giving to a minister of their choice who provides all welfare to the people through faith, hope and charity
People do not understand that Cain created the civil state by the people granting power to rulers through contracts. This is why I make the books available for free on line.

    The Covenants of the gods
    http://www.hisholychurch.org/order/materialscovenants.html

The Covenants of the gods  is a book about the contractual nature of governments and the “Gospel of the Kingdom”. It is a blend of law, ancient and modern, within the context of the Bible and history.
Although it explains some of the technical details of how governments of men expand their power over men, it does so by presenting them within the related precepts past down through that ancient Biblical texts and the context of history and its literature. The book only contributes to the solution by ultimately putting the responsibility for the present state into an honest perspective.

The vanity of man inclines him to blame other for his undesirable condition when in truth the source of our decline is our own sloth and avarice. If men want their rights back they must take their responsibilities back first. A central theme of the book is a question asked by Cecil B. DeMille in the movie “The Ten Commandments, “Are men the property of the state? Or are they free souls under God? This same battle continues throughout the world?” If you want to understand the subjugation of mankind this book shows the process and the precept of that descent.
