The State of the Economy

Everyone seems to have a solution for the economic problems facing the country and the world. The problem is not new nor is the solution out of our reach. Examining the whole problem will require us to step back far enough to see our own part in it. Solving the problem requires us to step back a lot further than most people will want to go.

To solve the present and future dilemma people will be required to reexamine their own relationship with the economy, government, and God.

Because of the present precarious state of the economy I have been regularly asked about the dangers and frailty of capitalism and its tendency to boom and bust. The present situation in the United States is not the result of capitalism.

We often think of capitalism as the antitheses of communism, but what is often called capitalism today is has more in common with the Communist Manifesto than anything resembling pure capitalism. While Capitalism or Communism may both lend themselves to corruption their moral outcome is dependent not upon the structure of each system, but upon the character of its members.

Communism is a “system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.”1

Pure communism demands an altruistic nature in its members in order to function successfully. For communism to work, its members must diligently desire to labor for the benefit of their neighbors as much as they desire to labor for themselves, understanding what benefits the whole benefits themselves.

Communism is a grand concept, but it does not work without a reversal in the human character.

If people are basically selfish or slothful they will be willing to take advantage of their neighbor by taking advantage of the system. That power will weaken the people and corrupt the offices of government. Communist governments often obtain an unlimited power to extract the contributions of the people by force, therefore its public ministers will be men who often love power more than service, and the people will love their benefits more than freedom.

Capitalism, on the other hand, is a “system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations2.”3

Pure capitalism also demands an altruistic nature in its members in order to function successfully. For capitalism to work, its members must diligently desire to labor for the benefit of their neighbors as much as they desire to labor for themselves, understanding what benefits the whole benefits themselves.

Capitalism is a grand concept, but it does not work without a reversal in the human character.

America has been on a continuous journey away from capitalism at least since the Civil War, with major leaps taken in 1916, 1933, 1964, 1971 etc. Since the Federal Reserve type banks and fractional reserve banking systems became the pervasive economic means of conducting business in the “world” all so called “investment capital” has become nothing more than the evidence of debt loaned into circulation. Capital is defined as “any form of wealth employed or capable of being employed in the production of more wealth.” What US citizens and their government use as money are actually debt notes or credit entries. Therefore the more notes in circulation, or the more credit entries on the “books” the more every member of that system is in debt.

The present economy is not based on “investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth” but upon debt. No citizen of the United States has a right to the ownership of the “beneficial interest” or right to the “use” of the property by the very definition of “legal title”.4 All property of record has steadily become collateral for debt through a process of registration and hypothecation and they are therefore required to pay a “use tax”.5

There is another kind of capital a man may, own, use or invest.

American labor, which is the capital of our workingmen.” 6

If you must pay a use tax or excise tax on your labor then you do not truly own the use of your labor either. Since 1933 citizens who apply for certain benefits of government are classified as “employees”. They are given a Federal Employee Identification Number and they only work for people who have a Federal Employer Identification Numbers. They are not only part of a corvee7 or statutory labor force,8 but are literally collateral for all debts, both public and private.9

When a nation owns nothing but debt there is no capital.

Where there is no capital there can be no capitalism.

The problem with both Communism and Capitalism is that people are by their nature selfish. Man’s altruistic image of God is an expression of hope and faith in a nature that is unselfishly concerned for the welfare of all. But the story of Adam and Eve, or Cain and Able, tells of a fallen nature with a less than altruistic nature.

Under Capitalism man exploits man;

Under Socialism the process is reversed.”

The problem is, and has always been, that mankind has constantly exploited other men for personal gain and benefit. Men are consistently devising schemes to bind others to their own will and service. These systems involve giving consent10 through application, participation, and some form of contractual or statutory agreement11 whereby by people go under the power of others12 for what they believe will be a benefit and a gain, usually at the expense of others.

Plutarch said it, “The real destroyers of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations, and benefits.”

When the people desire their own comfort and personal prosperity before that of others they are easily seduced into praying for benefits even when those benefits are supplied at the expense of our neighbor. All history has warned us.13 Jesus said it.14 King David said it.15 Proverbs said it.16 Paul said it.17 Peter said it.18 Yet! “A man void of understanding striketh hands, [and] becometh surety ….” Pr 17:18

Christ and the early Church told us not to pray to these government rulers who ‘call themselves benefactors’19 but ‘exercise authority’. They told us not to swear oaths20 or make any contracts or agreements with those unbelievers who sought to exercise authority. The early Church provided all the social welfare of a well organized, grass roots, self disciplined Christian community living by faith, hope, and charity and the perfect law of liberty despite the availability of extensive government sponsored welfare programs available through Rome or the government of the Pharisees.

The state of their economy depended entirely on the state of their own hearts, and in their heart was the Kingdom of God and His righteousness

The solution for their times and ours was and is to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all else will be provided.

7CORVEE’ In French Law. Gratuitous labor exacted from villages or communities, especially for repairing roads, constructing bridges, etc. Black’s 3rd p445. In Latin it would be covata from corrogare meaning “to gather by request”. Webster says it is an “obligation on the inhabitants of a district to perform services” or “forced labor exacted by government”. The Romans had a Corvee system in their provinces and eventually throughout the empire. The Jews opposed this because it was the system of Egypt. They were granted exemption because of the religious freedom in Roman law.

8“The corvée was different from other forced labor arrangements because it was labor performed for the government, involuntarily, on large public works projects. (The word ‘corvée’ meant ‘contribution,’ signifying one’s obligation to the state.) In some cases, the corvée meant a specified amount of time given to the state every year, as prescribed by law. Another name for it was, therefore, statute labor. It was used by the Romans for the upkeep of roads, bridges, and dikes, but got its name in France early in the 18th century.” SLAVERY AND SERFDOM Compton’s Encyclopedia

General government can be neither Capitalistic or Communistic. It can only be representative or it is not general government. The people in the community self governing through the perfect law of liberty is the just what is happening if the people are free. How they govern themselves is their business and they will, by the voice of the people so conduct their capital and labor as seemeth them well to do. If their hearts are big it will begin to look like communism. If they do no harm to each other the grace of God shall attend them however they choose to distribute their wealth, each family having the franchise to choose it as one voice. Any community that has others choose for them, it is not general government but another community. The evil of life proceeds when men and women no longer are responsible for their own affairs.

I don’t agree with your definition of communism. To begin with, communism does not recognized private property, so, if there is no private property, there can be no theft. Therefore, democracy can prevail. 51% can tyrannize the 49%. Thus one citizen can take property from another, and, therefore, if rights are nothing more than property, and there is no property in communism, therefore, one has no rights.

The Bible says that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves, but Communism goes one better than the Bible; the maxim of communism, “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need”, says that I must love my neighbor MORE than my self. Nothing like playing one-up-man-ship with God!

Again, to say that both systems, capitalism and communism require a change of human nature is just blatantly false. Communism may require a change but capitalism accepts human nature as it is and uses its weaknesses to control it. Competition is one of capitalism main tools as to control human greed. Competition amongst workers forces them to be cooperative in serving the customer’s needs. How? If the customer does not like the worker he hired, he is free to hire someone else. Thus, forcing cooperation, not between workers, but between workers and customers. Another name for customer would be employer. Adam Smith said that we don’t have to rely on the good nature of the baker, if we make it the baker’s self-interest to supply us with bread. If you want to depend upon altruism for your bread, prepare to go hungry.

Furthermore, communism depends upon matriarchy. The state does not want to compete with the father of the family, therefore, communism always seeks to destroy the family. The best way to do this is through feminism. If the theory of evolution were true, the ape-man would be still in the jungle and what kind of society would be the most natural to form up in the jungle. Women would be busy raising the young in a tribal village, with all things held in common. Where would the men be? Probably out somewhere in the jungle in some kind of tribal war.

In a nut shell, the family, patriarchy, and civilization, are artificial. The jungle, matriarchy, and communism are natural. Enter Hillory Clinton’s, “It takes a village to raise a child.” This is a return to the jungle.

The attack upon the family and fatherhood is a direct assault on Capitalism by communism. This idea was first articulated by Plato in his Republic, so this is not a new idea, but in order to establish communism, sexual behavior must also be change, thus, again, the 10 commandments have to go.

Anyway, to say that Communism and Capitalism are, in essence, the same,is just insane. I could go on and on about the differences, but to have a statement like come from someone like Brother Gregory unbelievable!

Communism is the anti-thesis of capitalism. To blend them together practice Hegel’s dialectical; the searing of one’s conscience!

    Sincerely,

You did not read carefully. I was speaking of “what is often called capitalism today”. There is no real capitalism today, certainly not in the United States. Most of the world uses debt notes and calls it capital. They have legal title to property which by definition does not include the “beneficial interest”.
    Law vs. Legal
    http://www.hisholychurch.org/study/bklt/law.pdf
What we pretend is private property today in the USA is not the reality of the situation. We have been so proud of our artificial affluence and pervasive comforts we have failed to realize that we are just renting and the state can remove us from our property and our property from us as soon as we stop paying the “use tax” That is not private ownership no matter what you want to call it. That is renting.

In fact if you would honestly examine the communist manifesto you would see that all ten planks are policy in the US today if not law.
In fact US citizens cannot hire, start a business, fire an employee without government permission and regulation.
The reason why most of us have read on the teeshirt that reads.
    “You can’t fire me.
    Slaves got to be sold.”
    Employ vs Enslave
    http://www.hisholychurch.org/study/bklt/cog4enslavebklt.pdf

Grover Cleveland spoke of, “American labor, which is the capital of our workingmen.”
If you read the link above carefully you will see that The US workingman no longer owns even his own labor. Unless we own our labor then we have no capital and again, true capitalism is dead.

People are living in a dream world and their pride keeps them asleep.
To wake up requires that they actually began to see things as they are and not merely as they say or would like to think things are.
